Gas price decline may be short-lived

GasBuddy Blog -- The U.S. national average has dropped for seven straight days, but unless there's a situation that develops quickly, the decrease may be short lived. Typically, gasoline prices decline in the autumn as gasoline demand dwindles and that drop sparks increases in supply. This year, it seems that between refinery problems and "planned maintenance" we just haven't seen an increase in supply like we normally do.

Oil and wholesale gasoline prices fell last week, but after the weekly EIA report Wednesday, gasoline futures rose while oil prices declined, leading to hefty refinery margins as crude oil prices fell and traders sent wholesale gasoline prices higher because of various supply related issues.

The increase in wholesale...

That's because prices are based on what the oil companies want to charge and get away with charging.

That's one of the problems it's always short lived, it's just wrong what they are doing, I had to take a cut in pay to keep my job, but everything else around me in continuing to go up, if your not rich already, they'll make sure you never have a chance to get there either.

There is no 'may be short lived' about it. Prices for the last four months have sky rocketed.

I can buy gas cheaper in Morton IL today than I did yesterday in St. Louis, MO. What is up with this? I was always under the impression that IL has the highest gas tax in the country.

These price drops are a result of a slow down in consumption, this created a gas surplus at the refineries, no doubt the refineries are comensating for that as we speak so that they can once again reduce supply and therefore increase price due to demand.

So lately we have had a drop in prices in our gas. thank god but hey people take advantage because you are right you never know what can happen and our prices may head back in the other direction. We don't create the prices of the barrel but we as a gas station try to be cheap for our towns convenience :)

I joined Gas Buddy on October 8, 2012. We just moved to Reno, NV and needed gas. I remembered I had Gas Buddy and really was just looking for a close gas station. Costco's gas was 20 cents cheaper $3.89/gallon than the next lowest gas price $4.09/gallon. We were shocked that there was a long line and coincidentally the computer crashed. We were concerned that they had run out of gas. It seems it was just a computer crash, but there were very long lines. Since then the prices have been much higher. Anyway, I am very into Gas Buddy. It seems to be addicting.

All that money Helicopter Ben has been printing has to go somewhere.
And that "somewhere" is almost always commodities.
The Bernank needs to be tried for economic treason, and his printing press set aflame.

we really need to be energy independent. why do we drill in alaska, and then ship that oil overseas. where is our innovation.
