Gas prices rise; officials wait to enter refinery

AP -- SAN FRANCISCO — A fire at one of the nation's largest oil refineries helped push West Coast gas prices close to $4 a gallon Thursday, as the same federal team that investigated the Gulf Coast spill waited to inspect the unit that was knocked out by the blaze.

Ironically, higher gas prices will probably pay for the damage.

And big oil is so excited, just salivating while considering just how much they can jack up gas prices before they ever decide to actually do something to fix their bucket of bolt refineries. With all the billions in profits they make every single quarter (BP the exception for being corrupt and stupid", you would think they could afford to build new refineries or halfway prevent these high number of leaks, fires, and explosions.

How would Obama react if Wal-Mart or McDonalds kept having fires and explosions every single year? He would open his big scheming mouth about how these businesses need even more government (over)regulation while refusing to regulate corrupt big oil companies and speculators as he claims to want but doesn't really want to do. It's time for Obama to put up or shut up.

If Congress would actually let some refineries get built, maybe this fire wouldn't have affected prices as much. Price fluctuations are inevitable when no new refineries have been built for at least 30 years.

With the loss of over 300K barrel/day and 16% of the region's gasoline supply, there is bound to be a rise in gasoline price.

Strange. Temple shooting gets labeled domestic terrorism. Oil Refinery.....a far more important place for the nations economy and security, is just a fire.....

We'll see what the cause was and if it was the desire to collect insurance money then I would expect to see a list of those being fired to appear on my desk in the morning.

Are they ever going to stop letting the speculators and oil companies keep the recession going?
