I get the grade recommendation for my car. I can not afford to pay the higher cost when it's not needed.
I know that the big pickup trucks that we have had sometimes needs a little of a higher grade at some of the cheaper stations because their gas would make the truck ping.

KEEP YOUR GAS TANKS (and gas-cans) FULL! I've been posting this for almost four weeks. The "pundits" have misjudged or totally missed the supply/demand situation of gasoline. We've had no fewer than six refineries that have gone down with emergency repairs in the last month. A pipeline went down in this time. High or HIGHER prices are probable for the next 4-6weeks! In addition to these current production problems, we have a possible storm disruption. Maybe bigger, the Federal Reserve will be announcing that they are ready to do whatever it takes to keep the economy from recession.* This will put immediate pressure on the Dollar which increases oil prices. Be smart! Stay full!
*Fed Chairman speaks this Friday in Jackson Hole, Wy, addressing the Fed Reserve Conference. All financial markets worldwide will be watching. Dollar/energy markets may be directly affected

3.93 sounded good this morning so I got 23 dollars worth. I was thankful I had the money to but it. I don't go as many places as I would like to.

At nearly $4.00 a gallon there isnt any possible savings at the pump, they might as well have someone at the pump holding a gun to your head because it feels like you are being robbed when you fill the tank.

The best savings at the pump come when your drive up to one with a high gasoline mileage vehicle.

The only thing I disagree with is the no name gas. It may come from the same tank as name brands, but the name brands add their "special formula" at the station otherwise it is just no name gas.

Real savings at the pump is when you bring the gas price back down to $2.00 or less a gallon. People buy cars that will fit there budget- the size of there family- and the purpose they are going to use.

Most cars do not need anything higher than regular, and if they need it and do not get it they automatically retard the timing to avoid the problem. This robs a bit of power and efficiency but is still cheaper than the 10% or more premium on high octane gas.

The best way to save at the pump is to get what you pay for. You pay for a gallon of GASOLINE. Not .9 gallon of gas with a filler to make you think you're getting a gallon. Ethanol does not deliver the power or mileage of real gas.
But then again, new marketing says less is more and is better, so less gas for more money must be better.
